Willie Loughman Forest Rally goes Global

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

The Plasticbags.IE Willie Loughman Forest Rally will break new ground on April 14 as the Irish event will be covered in full by WORLD RALLY Radio on the iRally App and on the WORLD WIDE WEB. Tom Geraghty Tyres in association with the Carrick on Suir Motor Club are proud to accounce that iRally will attend the 2013 Plasticbags.IE Willie Loughman Forest Rallytom geraghty and will broadcast live from the event over the internet via their free-to-download, free-to-use App for iPhone, iPad and Android and from their internet website

The agreement to bring iRally to the event has been sponsored by Tom Geraghty Tyres, on the announcement Tom Geraghty said, “The team involved with organising this year’s event have been relentlessly working to make the rally a success and I’m delighted to come onboard. Having iRally cover the rally adds yet another level of professionalism to an already professionally run event.”

World Rally Radio has pioneered split-by-split, stage-by-stage radio coverage of world rallying, and has covered events in more than thirty countries. iRally is used by hundreds of thousands of rally enthusiasts around the world.  It's available as a free-to-download, free-to-use App for iPhone, iPad and Android, with www.irallylive.com as its Internet site.  Now - after rallies like Monte Carlo and the Safari, championships like the World Rally Championship, Intercontinental Rally Challenge and European Rally Championship, plus the South African, Australian, Belgian and Rally America series - both World Rally Radio and the irally iRally App are coming to WATERFORD.

World Rally Radio will broadcast LIVE from the 2013 PlasticBags.IE Willie Loughman Forest Rally HQ, The Rhu Glenn Hotel. The coverage will be available through www.worldrallyradio.com, www.carrickonsuirmotorclub.com and a host of other motorsport sites, plus iTunes, Apple TV and direct through the iRally Apps.

There will be live stage end reports and those ultra-important service area interviews with competitors, event sponsors and event officials, as the Willie Loughman reaches out to the WORLD.

After securing the iRally coverage clerk of the course, Andrew Purcell said, "We have been quietly working on the possibility of partnering with iRally for the rally for some time. After making initial contact, we carried out a one off iRally interview with Greg Strange outlining the event in early February, we have stayed in contact and I'm now delighted to be able to announce that iRally will cover the 2013 PlasticBags.IE Willie Loughman Forest Rally Live! This is a first for Irish forest rallying and in my view will raise the profile of the sport to another level. Ireland has a huge history in the sport with famous rallies like the Circuit of Ireland but forest rallying has always been in the shadow of the major tarmac events in the Country. We we have some of the best forest stages in Europe and I want to broadcast that to the world and to that I want a world wide audience."

Speaking about coming to the event, iRally's Greg Strange:

"The Irish following for iRally has been huge since we first created the App.  We wanted to express our thanks for this support and this is a great way to do it.  We are also mindful of the great way that Irish motorsport fully embraces road safety, with campaigns like Keep The Race in its Place."

"The vast majority of rallies around the world are events just like the Willie Loughman, and they are the places where the stars of tomorrow begin.  When we learned that the event would this year establish a perpetual trophy to the memory of the much-loved, much-missed Gareth Roberts, and that Gareth's friend and driver Craig Breen would be driving the safety car at his home club's event, we wanted to be there."

"If rally fans around the world become aware of forest rallying in Ireland through World Rally Radio's coverage on April 14, we'll be delighted."

WRH Doc wins co drive seat with SWRC Champ

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Destiny or fate is defined as a predetermined course of events and that's the way it looks as Carrick on Motor Club announce the winner of their raffle to co drive for Craig Breen on the PlasticBags.IE Willie Loughman Forest Rally. And the winner is Paul McMahon from Co. Waterford. There was certainly an element of fate as upon contacting Paul about his lucky win he disclosed he is a Pediatric Doctor in WRH (Waterford Regional Hospital).

Paul's prize;

To co drive for current SWRC champion Craig Breen on the Willie Loughman Forest Rally. That’s nine special stages, 100 km’s of rallying in the forests near Mullinavat, Inistioge, New Ross, Slievenamon and the famous forest complex in Gurteen Kilsheelan.

The twist of fate comes by way of the club running the 00car that Paul will now co drive in-conjunction with Cystic Fibrosis Ireland, their nominated charity for the event and Paul was sold his lucky ticket by Yvonne O'Connor (WRH Paediatrics), who works as part of the team on the newly formed Cystic Fibrosis Project within Waterford Regional Hospital.

Upon getting the call about his win, Paul said. "This is absolutely unbelievable. I so much wanted to win this prize. I was sold the ticket by my colleague Yvonne and I told her that I would give anything to win. I'm a huge motorsport fan, I usually get in an F1 race or two during each season with my family but my history in motorsport dates back to the old Circuit of Ireland when it was a true circuit. I'm very much looking forward to meeting Craig, I can't wait to be strapped into the rallycar. I think over the next two weeks I'll be getting a crash course (no pun intended) on pacenote reading."

On making the announcement Clerk of the Course Andrew Purcell said, "It's amazing that the winner has such a connection to our nominated charity. There was a huge response to the tickets and we were hoping that the winner would be excited about winning. Paul's reaction when I called to let him know says it all. He was truly astonished and delighted, maybe it is fate. I hope he really enjoys what we and Craig have in store for him over the rally weekend."

In early March the Carrick Motor Club disclosed details that they had nominated the Waterford branch of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland as the their nominated charity for this years PlasticBags.IE Willie Loughman Forest Rally. At that time the club announced they would work inconjuntion with the charity to raise funds in the lead up to and during the rally. On the announement Clerk of the Course for the rally, Andrew Purcell said, "Over the last number of years the motor club has formed valuable partnerships with local charities. We want to continue that philosophy and on this occasion I'm delighted to formally announce our new partnership with Cystic Fibrosis Ireland. In deciding to work with this charity I was very impressed by the work they do. Cystic Fibrosis is a very debilitating decease and I hope the funds we raise help in some small way."

From the charity Anne Doyle, Clinical Nurse Specialist for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland said, “Cystic Fibrosis Ireland commenced a fund raising drive in December 2012 to raise €250k towards the refurbishment of 4 rooms to provide paediatric isolated ensuite facilities in Waterford Regional Hospital for children in the south east with Cystic Fibrosis. We are very excited to be chosen as the charity partner for this event. The value of this project now and into the future is inestimable for children with Cystic Fibrosis in the south east region.”

The two decide on a two pronged fundraising attack

  1. The advertising space on the 00 course car that Craig Breen will drive to be sold and all moneys rased going to the charity.
  1. The Rallycar to appear publicly in the week leading up to the rally, event programmes for the rally will be on sale at all venues and again all moneys raised to go to the charity.

The car will now be on show on the following dates:

·         6th April, City Square Waterford

·         7th April,  Tesco Car park, Wexford Town

·         11th April, Ardkeen Quality Foodstore

·         13th April, Market Cross Shopping Centre, Kilkenny City.

Craig gives his full support;

As part of the fundrasing effort Craig will be on hand next Saturday in City Square to help with the appeal. Talking about the charity Craig said, "I'm delighted to see the Motor Club make the effort to bring a charity like Cystic Fibrosis Ireland on board for this event. It's my hope the partnership will raise as much funds as possible, I hope to see a big turn out in City Sq next Saturday."
